BYU - Cross Country / Track| ALA QC 2012-2013 XC & Track
Karina Haymore attended Brigham Young University (BYU) where she competed as an NCAA Division 1 athlete. Karina began her running career as an 8th grader at ALA Queen Creek in 2012, the schools first ever season, where she had immediate success being bumped up to compete for the HS team in the CAA State Championship where she won 1st place. She went on to run track for the HS team as well setting State records in multiple events and winning HS Runner of the year as an 8th grader. Her Freshman year at ALA, Karina led her Cross Country team to a CAA State Championship where she also won an individual state title. Karina's family relocated to Nevada where she continued her success going on to become individual Nevada state champion in Cross Country. Karina was a 3 time 800M Nevada State Champion and broke a 41 year old state record in 2016, which she broke again in 2017. Her High School PR for the 800m was 208.55. She also took home titles in the 4x800m Relay as the anchor leg for the #1 4x800M team in the nation, and had multiple 1st and 2nd place finishes at State in the 400M and 1600M. Following her illustrious HS career, Karina was offered a full ride scholarship to compete for BYU for the 800M. While at BYU, Karina qualified for NCAA Division 1 West Regionals running a 2:07 800m and a 54 second 400m. Karina returned to ALA QC as an assistant cross country coach in 2023 where she helped coach girls the team to it's first ever AIA State Championship.

SVU - Cross Country / Track| ALA QC 2013 - 2021 XC & Track
Ashley Brewer attended Southern Virginia University (SVU) where she competed as an NCAA DIII athlete in both Cross Country and Track & Field. Ashley began her running career in 5th grade at ALA Queen Creek where she competed at the JH level for 4 years. Ashley helped the team to win 4 consecutive state championships where she finished top 6 in the state all 4 years including an individual State Title in 2015 and State runner-up in 2016. Ashley as ran track in JH winning medals in the 1600m, and 800m helping her team win state in 2016. In High school, Ashley competed in Varsity Cross Country and Track all four years. She qualified for state individually in cross country all 4 years of high school and was the team's top finisher her Freshman and Sophomore year. In 2019 and 2020, she helped her team to win sectionals and went on to finish First Team All-State three seasons. In track Ashley qualified and competed 3 years at state in the 3200 and in 2020 also qualified in High Jump before the season was cancelled. In 2021, Ashley was honored as a Track & Field All-American by the United Dairymen of Arizona for Ashley went on to run at SVU where she competed in Cross Country and Track. Her first season, Ashley qualified for regionals in both cross country and track and helped SVU win their first ever Conference Championship for both sports. Ashley recently joined the ALA Coaching Staff as an assistant Cross Country Coach.

BYU / GCU - Track| ALA QC 2018-2019 XC & Track
Alona Haymore is currently attending Grand Canyon University where she competes in Track & Field running mid-distance. Prior to her time at GCU, Alona ran for Brigham Young University. Alona began her running career at ALA Queen Creek in 8th Grade. In her first season ever running Cross Country, Alona finished as the State Runner-up at the CAA State Championship. Alona went to on to have additional success in Track & Field her 8th grade season finishing 1st in state in the 800M and 400M, while also walking away from the state meet with a silver medal in the 400M and a bronze in the 100M. Alona Also broke the JH State and School records in both the 400M and 800M her 8th grade season. Alona continued on to have success in high school where she was a two time State 3rd Place finisher in the 800M. After her Freshman season where she competed for BYU during the indoor and outdoor season, Alona transfered closer to home at GCU and is currently competing for the Lopes.

UC Berkeley - Swim| ALA QC 2017-2019 XC & Track
While not attending college as a distance athlete, this list would not be complete without super swimmer August Vetsch. August will be attending University of California - Berkeley this upcoming season as a swimmer. In addition, he recently qualified for the Olympic trials in the 100M Butterfly and 50M Free. Before he was an elite swimmer, August ran Cross Country at ALA QC through Junior High helping our boys team to some top finishes at state between the 2017 and 2019 season as one of our top runners. We look forward to seeing what he accomplishes at the collegiate and professional level!
